New LG 2025 TVs: Major Changes to The OLED And QNED Lineup

The LG 2025 TV lineup features updated OLED panels from LG Display with a completely new design.

This year, the company replaced the screen’s MLA (micro lens) technology with a new dual blue emission panel design.

Manufacturers have also changed the panel from a three-layer (3S4C) to a four-layer (4S4C) structure. The innovative 4-layer OLED panel features a cutting-edge Primary RGB Tandem structure.

LG OLED G5

The Brightness Booster Ultimate technology will make the new models three times brighter than the base “B” series. Researchers measure this within a 10% window. In FILMMAKER mode, brightness reaches 2400 nits; in non-standard picture modes, it can approach 3700 nits.

The manufacturer has significantly improved the automatic brightness limitation (ABL) system. Now, the TV can maintain a brightness of more than 300 nits with a completely white screen, which is 40% higher than the G4. It also extends the color gamut far beyond DCI-P3.

The new panel delivers an improved color gamut in BT2020 space, exceeding typical OLED values of 75%.

Experts anticipate changing the pixel arrangement to an RWBG pattern will improve text clarity and color reproduction.

The TV has a new Alpha 11 Gen2 processor that includes advanced AI algorithms and supports a 165Hz refresh rate.

The G5 will be available in six screen sizes: 48, 55, 65, 77, 83, and 97 inches. Maximum brightness and new technologies will only be available in the 55-inch, 65-inch, 77-inch, and 83-inch models.

The 48- and 97-inch versions will have lower-brightness panels, and the 97-inch model will also not support 165Hz.

The company has not yet revealed pricing. Sales should begin in the first half of 2025.

lg 2025 oled tv lineup

In the 2010s, LG developed its first OLED TVs, showcasing a record-breaking 55-inch model.

Other OLED TV Models

LG also unveiled updated mid-segment models.

The OLED C5 remains the top model, despite the lack of new MLA OLED tech from 2023. The new C4 will have enhanced brightness (up to 1000 nits) and better color accuracy than last year’s model.

The TV will get an updated Alpha 9 Gen 8 processor and support for a 165Hz refresh rate. The C5 will be available in a wide range of sizes, from 42 to 83 inches.

The 2025 lineup will include an updated B5 model, replacing the B4. A key improvement will be the availability of four HDMI 2.1 ports, making the model more appealing to gamers.

The B5 will be offered in sizes ranging from 48 to 83 inches and will get an OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.

An interesting new product is the M5, a wireless version of the flagship G5. The TV has premium features and includes a unit for wireless signals. However, it has two limitations: it needs a power outlet, and the wireless hub lacks support for a 165 Hz refresh rate.

Manufacturers have decided not to produce the budget A series in 2025.

QNED Evo Lineup

Key models include the QNED90, the 100-inch QNED89, and the QNED9M with Zero Connect unit.

LG’s LCD TVs are less popular than its OLED models, primarily because they use low-contrast IPS panels.

In March 2025, LG Display plans to shut down production of LCD TV panels by selling its last factory to TCL CSOT.

Judging by the new 100-inch QNED89 and 85-inch QNED90, LG Electronics has partially turned to new panel suppliers. The company’s abandonment of quantum dots in the latest “QNED evo” models serves as evidence of this change.

In 2025, LG will completely revamp its LCD TV lineup, rebranding it as “QNED Evo.”

The manufacturer replaced traditional quantum dot technology (QLED) with a new Dynamic QNED Color Solution.

LG Electronics has unveiled the QNED evo 2025 line of TVs – featuring advanced picture output technologies.

Details of this technology have not yet been disclosed, which leaves questions about its benefits.

The QNED90 model will head the QNED Evo lineup. The device features a modern miniLED backlight with local dimming. The company hasn’t revealed the number of dimming zones, but this technology should enhance contrast and image quality.

The QNED9M model features a Zero Connect module for wireless transmission, supporting 4K at 144 Hz.

However, they decided to abandon miniLED technology in this model.

The QNED99 model with 8K resolution will remain in the top segment and will continue to be available in 2025. This decision indicates that LG is not entirely interested in 8K technology.

The new 100-inch QNED89 will feature local dimming but won’t use miniLED tech. LG’s 100-inch QNED89 may feature a VA panel from BOE, offering improved contrast, unlike its earlier 98-inch model, which had a TCL panel.

The mid-price category will feature the QNED85 model with a diagonal of up to 86 inches. This series will support a 144 Hz refresh rate, but the 50 and 55-inch models will not have this feature.

The updated QNED Evo lineup also includes the base models QNED82 and QNED80. Manufacturers plan to offer these standard LCD TVs at a lower price, with the key benefits of QNED technology.

All new QNED Evo models will use an updated webOS and support advanced AI functions for image processing.

LG also plans to release models UA7500 and UA7300, which will be basic LCD TVs with 60 Hz and the webOS 25 operating system.

Changes in webOS and a New Remote Control

LG has finally responded to years of user requests and introduced an updated remote control. The key change was abandoning glossy plastic in favor of a new housing material.

The new AI Magic Remote is more streamlined in design, yet it still includes some features that spark debate. It continues to feature motion control along with six dedicated sponsorship buttons.

The manufacturer has significantly changed the layout of the controls. Like Samsung, they removed digital buttons 1-9, rearranged the volume controls, and eliminated the input selection button.

The manufacturer replaced the old voice control button with a new AI button, renaming the remote to AI Magic Remote.

remote its new name: AI Magic Remote

The webOS software has been enhanced with the release of version 25. The new version retains convenient access to streaming services, but unfortunately, it doesn’t eliminate ads.

It’s important to note that webOS 25 will be available on 2025 models, 2024, 2023, and even some 2022 and 2021 TVs.

The system adds a new AI-enabled sound mode, improves voice search, and introduces Voice ID technology.

Other Model Row Innovations

LG has discontinued ATSC 3.0 tuners. Features include Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wowcast for wireless sound, HDMI 2.1 QMS, and LG’s gamepad.

The LG 2025 model can be recognized by the number “5” (5 means 2025) in the model name. For example, C5, where 5 = 2025, 4 = 2024, 3 = 2023, 2 = 2022, 1 = 2021, X = 2020, 9 = 2019, 8 = 2018, 7 = 2017, 6 = 2016.

The new LCD models are designated QNED or UA. A reminder:

  • QNED**A / UA = 2025
  • QNED**T / UT = 2024
  • QNED / UR = 2023
  • QNED / UQ / Nano = 2022
  • QNED / UP / Nano = 2021
  • Nano / UN = 2020
  • SM / UM = 2019
  • SK / UK = 2018
  • SJ / UJ = 2017
  • UH = 2016
  • UF = 2015
